When imported surface data is not smooth, SOLIDWORKS tries to repair the surfaces. Select the Show IGES levels option in the Import Options dialog box to display the IGES-In Surfaces, Curves, and Levels dialog box. You can select the levels to import for IGES files that contain multiple levels. The IGES translator supports colors when you import curves.
In the Import Options dialog box, select the Free point/curve entities check box and click Import as sketch(es). You can import 3D curves in an IGES file as 3D sketch entities. In my experience, parasolid files (.XT) import the best into Solidworks, followed somewhat closely by STEP files. Also, set the number of significant digits (precision) as high as possible to ensure accurate translation. The same geometry imported through a different file type may import into Solidworks with no errors at all, OR with errors that are easily fixed with the Import Diagnostics wizard. Select the mesh, and go to the Part menu -> Create shape from mesh.
If you want the software to try to form a solid from imported IGES data, export the solid or surfaces from the source system as trimmed surfaces (Entity type 144) or as untrimmed surfaces (Entity types 128, 122, 120, 118, 114). To convert a mesh object to a solid, here are the steps: Switch to the Part workbench. The 2D geometry is imported into a sketch rather than imported as reference curves. Once you have Registry Editor opened, and your backup made, navigate to the location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem and find the key LongPathsEnabled. If there is wireframe geometry in an imported file, the software reads the IGES data and forms curves for the IGES wireframe entities. These methods may work for Windows 8.1 or earlier, but we cannot guarantee that.
One is for Windows 10 Home users and the other is for Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise users. No sense using PowerShell to do the work every day. In addition to Gmshs native MSH file format (see File formats), Gmsh can read/write many standard mesh files, depending on how it was built: check the File. If you know you’re going to be using long file paths and long file names repeatedly, it’s easier to make Windows work for you. You can use the dir command again to make sure it is gone.
